Washington County, its communities, and the Commonwealth of Virginia are committed to supporting small business development and entrepreneurship. A number of valuable resources available, including those outlined below.
The Virginia Highlands Small Business Incubator is a non-profit economic development tool created through a partnership with the Town of Abingdon and Washington County. VHSBI provides support, guidance, reasonable rent, and services to foster a successful business community. The facility consists of office space, manufacturing spaces, training rooms with audio/video capabilities, conference rooms, a well-equipped kitchen space, and shared common office resources such as copier, phones and fax machine.
The Virginia Highlands Community College Small Business Development Center is part of the U.S. SBA (Small Business Administration) center network. It provides a wide range of technical assistance to small business and entrepreneurs.
The Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity supports economic development in the Commonwealth by helping to enhance and ensure fairness in the procurement process for all of Virginia’s small, women-owned and minority-owned (SWaM) businesses.
People Incorporated links entrepreneurs, individuals, and families to financial services, affordable housing and transportation to develop a more prosperous, sustainable and viable economy throughout Virginia.
The Washington County Business Challenge is a business competition designed to attract entrepreneurs with new technology, value-added agriculture, outdoor recreation and retail/support service businesses, to locate their start up or to expand their existing business within Washington County.
